The Beat In Progress is a highly demanding chart for the advanced college jazz ensemble. It was selected for the 2012 Jazz Educators Network (JEN) Composition Showcase, as well as recognized in 2010 for an ASCAP Young Jazz Composer's Award Honorable Mention. Drawing inspiration from modern Electronic Dance Music as well as contemporary jazz harmony, The Beat In Progress is set at a punishing tempo to showcase the drums in a Drum'n'Bass style (An electronic music genre). Featured soloists are Alto Saxophone and Piano, with circular breathing recommended in the Alto Saxophone 1 part for an extended section.
